CHICAGO – HYROX, the World Series of Fitness Racing is bringing its North American Championship race to Navy Pier on Feb. 11. The North American Championship race is one of three elite racing events in the HYROX season calendar. Male and Female winners of the Elite race will be crowned HYROX North American Champions. Alongside the Elite races on the weekend, HYROX will also run its regular Open Individuals, Doubles and Team Relay categories, with 1,200 people taking part and tickets still available.
HYROX is the first event that bridges the gap between traditional endurance events and functional fitness by combining running with functional movements in a standardized format. Participants in HYROX complete eight 1K running laps, with a workout between each lap, either as individuals, in pairs, or as a relay team of four, providing an accessible entry point for any fitness level. After competing, participants receive a worldwide seeding, with the top athletes having a chance to compete at the culmination of the season, the World Championships.
“Chicago has been a fantastic location for us with many memorable events in the past; last year, we crowned our first North American Champions in this city, and I’m delighted to be returning this year,” said Moritz Fürste, HYROX co-founder. “Having watched the first elite series race in Europe last month, I’m really excited to watch some of the best athletes on the planet compete side by side with our incredible community of regular HYROXers.”

ABOUT HYROX
HYROX was founded in 2017 by Christian Toetzke, an industry veteran in the international cycling, marathon and triathlon world, and Moritz Furste, one of Germany’s greatest-ever hockey players and a successful entrepreneur. HYROX was born out of the founders’ desire for an event that would bring the endurance and functional fitness worlds together in a format that replicated the activities that regular gym-goers did in their workouts. HYROX bridges the gap between traditional long-distance endurance events and functional fitness and attracts competitive athletes and enthusiasts from all sporting backgrounds.
HYROX has experienced remarkable growth since its inception, from one race with 650 participants in 2017 to 45 races in 11 countries and an estimated 90,000 participants in 2023. The 2021/22 Season World Championships Race in Las Vegas was the subject of a feature-length documentary on ESPN. Bolstered by investment from the Infront Sports & Media Group in 2019 and aligned with significant international brand partners, including Puma and Red Bull, HYROX is continuing its rapid global expansion plans with new races and new markets opening.
